Wall Street Journal Off Duty Holiday Gift Guide - no.10!

Off Duty Holiday 50

Blades of Glory  (number 10)

Forged in Massachusetts by R. Murphy, a company that's been honing its craft since 1850, these knives have handles of pecan wood reclaimed from an old Chrysler plant. Of course, none of that would matter if the blades themselves—high-carbon steel that holds a wickedly sharp edge—weren't the business. One 8-inch chef's knife, one slim filet knife and one paring knife are all any home kitchen requires. But the back story that comes with them does add a certain something.

R. Murphy Knives via Food52 in Wall Street Journal Off Duty!

The E-Emporium
F. Martin Ramin/The Wall Street Journal
Goods from Food52

Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs launched the cooking website Food52, in 2009, they knew it was only a matter of time before they would begin providing not only recipes, tips and articles, but also the kind of objects and ingredients on view in the site's carefully styled food photography. That day has come with this week's debut of Provisions, a Web store that allows Food52's ever-growing community of home cooks to bring that distinctive aesthetic into their own kitchens. The selection includes colorful enamel cookware from the Austrian company Riess, American-made R. Murphy oyster shuckers and even fresh fruit from cult producers like Frog Hollow Farm in California. Many items, like the Oaktown Spice Shop blends, are exclusive to the site, and in addition to individual finds, Provisions offers "Collections" of products paired with complementary entertaining tips and recipes. One such is the Citron Pressé set, which contains all the accoutrements you'll need to pull off Food52's recipe for "The Best Lemonade You've Ever Had" with panache. From $3 for dried hibiscus,

R. Murphy Knives Will Be at the New England Food Show!

We are excited to be exhibiting at the New England Food Show!
This is our first time at this huge event which runs in tandem with the International Boston Seafood Show.  There is a lot going on between these two shows - chefs demonstrations, speakers, new products, oyster shucking competition, educational programs, and of course, great food, wine, beer and more.

Please stop by our table # 3000 located in the New Exhibitors section right at the entrance to the show. We will have our beautiful line of cooking, slicing and boning knives on display as well as our line of shellfish knives (oyster, crab, clam, scallop) and food processing and produce knives.  These are also on display in the New Products Showcase - #3513.

Then Chefs Collaborative first-ever Trash Fish Dinner is Sunday evening, March 10!

Right after our day of exhibiting at NEFS, we head over to Area Four (can't wait) to attend this sure-to-be delicious  event.  Calling attention to under-used varieties of fish, area chefs will prepare some great dishes with fish we've never heard of, much less eaten!

We are extremely pleased to be a sponsor of this wonderfully unique event.  I believe it is entirely sold out, so we will report in next week to let you know how we liked dogfish!
